Building Friendships, Finding Support, and Making the Most of the Season

Summer is here, and with it comes the perfect opportunity to strengthen the bonds that help military spouses thrive—no matter where the season takes us.

Whether you're settling into a new duty station or holding down the fort while your spouse is deployed, this time of year offers a unique chance to reconnect, recharge, and reach out. Summer PCS moves, changes in schedules, and the absence of structured school days can be challenging—but they also open the door for new friendships, shared experiences, and personal growth.

Many spouses are in transition this time of year, whether it’s a move across the country or a shift in family routines. Connecting with others who understand military life can ease that transition. Check your local installation’s spouse clubs, family readiness groups, or community centers for summer events like meetups, coffee mornings, or newcomers’ socials. Even a simple chat at the playground can lead to lasting friendships.

🌿 Prioritize Your Well-being

Summer is also the perfect time to take a breath. Look for workshops, fitness classes, or wellness programs offered through Military OneSource or your local MWR. A little time for yourself can go a long way in maintaining resilience and balance.

☀️ Ways to Get Involved This Summer:

  • Join a Summer Book Club – Find a group online or start one with a few new friends.

  • Volunteer Locally – Support other families or get involved in base events.

  • Plan a Potluck or BBQ – An easy, low-pressure way to meet new faces.

  • Explore Your Surroundings – Whether you’re new or native, treat your town like a tourist and discover something new.

💬 Let’s Stay Connected

No matter where this summer takes you, remember: you’re not alone. The strength of the military spouse community lies in our shared experience and our willingness to reach out and support one another.

So here’s to making this a season of sunshine, strength, and new beginnings—together.

Take the bite out of rising vet costs with pet insurance

Veterinarians across the country have reported pressure from corporate managers to prioritize profit. This incentivized higher patient turnover, increased testing, and upselling services. Pet insurance could help you offset some of these rising costs, with some providing up to 90% reimbursement.
